Hope Hospital

Hope Loans’ mission is to empower those in poverty through sustainable, holistic solutions that bring hope and transform lives. Hope Loans primarily serves Bangladesh, providing micro-loans, education, sustainable agriculture, and health services to impoverished rural areas of this nation in which just over four percent of children do not live to see their fifth birthday, and of those who do, the growth of 41% is stunted due to malnutrition.

Around two-thirds of births do not have a skilled attendant (e.g., midwife or doctor) present, leading to great health risks for the mothers. Lives of child brides and their babies are being saved with this unprecedented access to care. Nationwide, there is an average of only 4 physicians per 100,000 members of the population.[1] On an island in the middle of the Padma (Ganges) River, however, there were no trained physicians and not even a single medical facility for the estimated 100,000 isolated island residents until Hope Loans helped to open a temporary clinic and pharmacy around two years ago. This small clinic is operating on a limited basis while we seek funding to finish construction and open Hope Hospital, a much larger facility that will be the first of its kind on this island and the surrounding areas. Hope Hospital also houses doctors and medical staff. It also provides training spaces for doctors and a base for medical teams.

At present, the building’s construction has been completed. Hope Loans is seeking the remaining $60,000 to provide medical equipment and start up costs for the first year. Self-sustaining agricultural projects at the site are already underway to help the clinic continue free and low cost medical services to the community. Services offered will include general care, OB/GYN, dentistry, eye care, and minor surgeries.
